The NDP has maintained its stronghold in the Winnipeg riding of Elmwood—Transcona in a tight byelection race with the Conservatives.
Elections Canada reported the results of all 191 polls showing NDP candidate Leila Dance won the race with 48.1 per cent of the vote.
Conservative candidate Colin Reynolds managed to grow the Tories’ share of the vote from 28 per cent in the 2021 general election to 44 per cent in Monday’s byelection.
The Conservatives campaigned aggressively in the Winnipeg race to try to win over traditional NDP voters on labour and affordability issues.
The NDP meanwhile appear locked in a dead heat with the Liberals and the Bloc Québécois in the Montreal riding of LaSalle—Émard—Verdun.
Elections Canada warned the results in that riding would be delayed because of a record 91 names on the ballot.
