The Nepal national cricket team will lock horns with Canada in the 32nd ODI of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 in Ontario, Canada on Sunday, September 22.
The Nepal vs Canada ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 will start at 8:30 PM IST.
Led by captain Rohit Paudel, Nepal will aim to bounce back after suffering a one-wicket defeat against Oman at the Maple Leaf Cricket Ground on Wednesday.
Put in to bat, Nepal rode on Rohit Paudel’s 60 along with contributions from Gulsan Jha (53) and Aarif Sheikh (35) to post 220/9 in their 50 overs.
Later, young Nepal right-arm pacer Gulsan Jha bagged a five-wicket haul to reduce Oman to 211/9 in 47.1 overs. Despite Nepal’s best efforts, Shakeel Ahmed (17 not out) and Kaleemullah (6 not out) stitched an unbeaten 12-run stand for the final wicket to guide Oman to a thrilling victory in King City, Ontario.
With just one win and five losses, Nepal are currently placed seventh in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 standings with two points on the board.
On the other hand, the Canada national cricket team will head into the game brimming with confidence after they defeated Oman by 59 runs in their previous ICC CWC League 2 fixture at the Maple Leaf Cricket Ground on Friday.
Harsh Thaker (93), captain Nicholas Kirton (57), Pargat Singh (42) and Dilon Heyliger (37) powered Canada to a competitive total of 276/8 after Oman won the toss and opted to field first.
Dilon Heyliger later picked up four wickets while Kaleem Sana bagged two wickets to bowl out Oman for 217 in 46 overs.
Having registered six victories and four defeats, Canada are currently placed second in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 with 12 points from 10 matches.
As per the ICC CWC League 2 2023-27 format, the top four teams in ICC CWC League 2 will directly qualify for ICC World Cup 2027 Qualifier while the four bottom-placed teams will take part in the ICC World Cup Qualifier Play-off, effectively a repechage tournament also including the top four teams from the ICC World Cup Challenge League, the third tier of international 50-over cricket.
The Nepal vs Canada head-to-head in ODI cricket favours the Asian outfit. Nepal have won three of the four ODIs that they have played against each other so far. Canada have registered just a solitary victory.
However, the last time these two sides met, Canada thrashed Nepal by 103 runs in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-series played at the Maple Leaf Cricket Ground in King City, Ontario last week.
