Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of major infrastructure projects in Mumbai on Saturday, some of which are expected to significantly enhance connectivity, reduce travel time and ease congestion. The first project is the Thane-Borivali Tunnel Project which is said to be valued at Rs 16,600 crore. This ambitious initiative includes tube tunnels passing beneath Sanjay Gandhi National Park, establishing a direct link between Western Express Highway in Borivali and Ghodbunder Road in Thane. The 11.8 kilometre Borivali Thane Link Road is expected to slash the current Thane to Borivali commute by 12 kilometres and save commuters up to one hour in travel time. Additionally, the PM will also launch the Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR) project, which costs over Rs 6,300 crore. This project will connect Western Express Highway at Goregaon with Eastern Express Highway at Mulund, drastically reducing travel time from the current 75 minutes to just 25 minutes.
