NFL trade deadline: Bryce Young, Cooper Kupp headline names who could be dealt

Could the 2023 No. 1 overall draft pick be on the move? How about a Super Bowl MVP still at a prime-producing age, despite injuries? What pass rushers could be dealt to boost a contender?

All of those questions, and potentially more, will be answered by the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET.

With so many teams in the mix at the halfway point with the expanded playoffs, the difference between the buyers and sellers could be razor thin. Could the Panthers move on from 2023 No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young? Yahoo Sports’ Charles Robinson says that some across the NFL think the Panthers are willing to cut bait on the second-year quarterback, should a market develop to try to rebuild the 2021 Heisman Trophy winner after a dismal start to his NFL career.

Cooper Kupp’s name has been in trade circles for nearly two weeks, but the Rams are still connected in the NFC wild-card race, particularly after Sunday’s overtime win in Seattle, and head coach Sean McVay says he wouldn’t want the Super Bowl 56 MVP to leave Los Angeles.

Yahoo Sports’ Frank Schwab has a deadline wish list that includes Davante Adams back to the Bay Area, Detroit adding a well-traveled pass rusher, and the Cowboys upgrading their backfield among his 10 trades that should happen before the deadline.

While the #Saints fired Dennis Allen after a seven-game losing streak, it doesn’t sound like it’ll be a firesale before tomorrow’s trade deadline. They have gotten calls and could move the likes of CB Marshon Lattimore. But a widespread selloff seems unlikely.

Saints fire head coach Dennis Allen after 2-7 start

After falling to a 2-7 record, the New Orleans Saints are making some big moves ahead of the trade deadline — on the coaching staff.

The Saints fired head coach Dennis Allen on Monday after three seasons. New Orleans started off well, going 2-0 to start the season, but have lost their last seven, including games against mediocre opponents (Denver Broncos, Carolina Panthers) that could — or perhaps should — have been easy wins.

With Allen out, special teams coach Darren Rizzi will take over as interim head coach.

Jerry Jones hints at potential trade deadline activity

The 3-5 Dallas Cowboys have been falling short of expectations, capped by a loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. As the team struggles with the run game, red zone defense and other key areas on the field, owner Jerry Jones should be looking to make a few moves before the deadline.

“We’ll probably do a couple things this week,” Jones told reporters outside the postgame locker room, per Yahoo Sports’ Jori Epstein. “If things work out for us the way we’d like for them to.”

With the season on the line — plus Dak Prescott being questionable with an injury — Cowboys will have to figure how to treat these trades, and whether to go for long-term or short-term success.

The 23-year-old play-caller has struggled to gain his footing at Carolina, but has made steps forward in recent weeks. With the Panthers tepid about Young’s future with the team, there are a number of teams who could use a young talent like Young.

Report: Lions close to deal for Browns’ Za’Darius Smith

Everyone knew the Detroit Lions were in the market for a defensive lineman after star Aidan Hutchinson suffered a season-ending leg injury on Oct. 13. Could that remedy be the Cleveland Browns’ Za’Darius Smith?

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the current expectation is that Smith will be traded to Detroit tonight [Sundayor tomorrow.

Smith, 32, has played for the Ravens, Packers, and Vikings. He has said he’d welcome a trade to Detroit, since it would allow him to compete directly with two of his former teams.
