Jeremiah Smith has done it again. The Ohio State freshman receiver snared a touchdown catch with one hand for the second consecutive week to give the Buckeyes their second score over Iowa. No. 3 Ohio State went on to win 35–7 and improved to 5–0.
Smith caught the 4-yard TD with only his right hand while holding Hawkeyes cornerback Deshaun Lee off with his left.
The highlight catch finished off a nine-play, 86-yard drive on Ohio State’s first possession of the second half. Prior to his touchdown grab, Smith hauled in a 53-yard pass to get to the Iowa 4-yard line.
Last week against Michigan State, Smith made two one-handed catches against the same two Spartans defensive backs on Ohio State’s final drive before halftime.
The first one was a leaping 27-yard reception between two MSU defenders. The second grab went for a touchdown after Smith beat his defender at the line and dashed past him to reach out for a throw from quarterback Will Howard.
The second one-hander went for a Buckeyes touchdown and a 24-7 lead going into halftime.
Against Iowa, Smith finshed with four catches for 89 yards and a touchdown, along with a 14-yard rush.
Howard threw for 209 yards with four scores and an interception, completing 21-of-25 passes. Emeka Egbuka caught three touchdowns among his nine receptions for 71 yards. Quinshon Judkins led the Buckeyes in rushing with 78 yards on 13 carries, while TreVeyon Henderson added 61 yards on 11 rushes.
The Hawkeyes were led by Kaleb Johnson‘s 86 yards rushing on 15 carries with one touchdown. Quarterback Cade McNamara threw for only 98 yards with an interception on 14-of-20 passing. He was also sacked three times. Iowa had 225 yards of total offense and 10 first downs overall.
