Open A I unveiling its first model with reasoning abilities and our own our own.
Dan Halley is here with the details.
Dan.
That’s right, Josh, this is uh chat, not chat G BT.
It’s uh open A IO one.
And so it’s something that’s going to be integrated into uh chat GP T as well as their API S. Uh Basically, this isn’t yet meant to be something that can scour the web and provide you information like that.
They say this is more for physicists, people who are working in the medical field coders.
And the idea is that it’s able to, as they say, reason over uh answers, it’ll take longer to provide a response to you because of that.
Uh and then provide you with a likely more correct answer than other models would have said it can look over its mistakes, recognize them and then provide you with the right response.
And so uh in one of the tests, they said, uh it measured similarly to phd students on benchmarks for physics, chemistry and biology.
They said it also excels at math and Coding uh in the uh qualifying exam for the International Mathematics Olympiad uh the prior model G BT 40 correctly solved 13% of problems uh in this one, this is uh 01, it scored correctly on 83%.
Uh And so it’s clearly improving in the math side of things.
That was something that was shockingly difficult for these uh models to, to perform.
Some people had criticized uh earlier models for being able to be able to perform basic math.
And so this is an interesting development.
They say that this is going to be available uh in preview.
Uh It’ll be important obviously to see how it works in the real world.
Uh They say they’re working with the US and the UK A I institutes to make sure that they’re following safety and that they’re giving them uh previews of these models.
Uh Something that’s also a big deal when it comes to A I like this.
But you know how this eventually translates into something uh that’s a product or becomes part of products later, I think is important.
Uh Microsoft, obviously a huge investor in open A I and what this means for them in their own product line is going to be a must ask uh for Microsoft itself if and when they start integrating pieces like this into their product lines.
