Three people were found shot dead near the Pilot Travel Center in North Palm Springs on Sunday afternoon, police said.
Officers received a call for a gunshot victim near North Indian Canyon Drive and Garnet Avenue about 1:15 p.m., the Palm Springs Police Department said in a news release. Police found two men dead in a white Toyota sedan and a third man, dead from apparent self-inflicted gunshot wounds, “just south of Interstate 10, near the Indian Canyon Drive overpass.”
Officers didn’t believe there were any outstanding suspects and said they believed the two scenes were related. Police are withholding the names of the victims pending notification of next of kin by the Riverside County Coroner’s Office.
Seven vehicles including Palm Springs Police, the Riverside County Coroner’s office, Riverside County forensics as well as district attorney investigators are on the scene.
The white sedan remains in the intersection.
The Wendy’s restaurant and Pilot Travel Center remain open as officers continue to speak with people on the scene.
Mike Villegas with the Palm Springs Police Department said southbound Indian Canyon Drive south of Interstate 10 would remain closed while the investigation continues. The eastbound Interstate 10 offramp to Indian Canyon Drive was also closed.
This is a developing story that will be updated.
