In Sunday afternoon MLB action, the Oakland Athletics and the Philadelphia Phillies will wrap up their weekend series from Citizens Bank Park. Be ready for the baseball season with all of our MLB free picks. The Athletics (36-61) have dropped 36 of their first 50 road games and are trapped in the AL West Division. On Saturday, Oakland DH Brent Rookier homered and scored twice during an 11-5 road loss.
Twenty-two year old righty Joey Estes (3-4 5.53 ERA) will take the ball for the Athletics on Sunday. Last time out, Estes was roughed up for eight runs and recorded just five runs during a 12-9 road loss against Boston.
The Philadelphia Phillies have won 37 of their first 52 home games and own the best overall record in the majors. During yesterday’s home victory All-Star SS Trea Turner’s two-run blast gave Philadelphia a 6-2 lead after four innings. OF Nick Castellanos homered and drove in four runs for the Phillies, who improved to 62-33 on the year.
Philadelphia manager Rob Thomson has yet to announce a starting pitcher for the series finale. The Phillies lead the majors with a 3.24 ERA and will likely use a bullpen approach to the final game before the All-Star Break.
