PointsBet Canada’s library of casino games just got a boost via a newly announced partnership with Play’n GO.
Casino dominates Ontario’s online gaming scene. According to iGaming Ontario’s Q2 FY2024-25 market performance report, casino accounted for 86% of the CA$18.7 billion (US$13.1 billion) in total online wagers.
The deal with the Sweden-based Play’n GO means PointsBet Canada players will now have access to popular games like Book of Dead, Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness, and Reactoonz.
PointsBet Canada offered 517 icasino games before the deal. It has added 19 Play’n GO games to that total so far in the first week of the partnership.
“Play’n GO has built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality content, and we’re thrilled to bring their titles to our platform,” said PointsBet Canada Chief Executive Officer Scott Vanderwel in a statement. “At PointsBet, our focus is on providing a safe and engaging entertainment experience for our players, and it’s clear that Play’n GO aligns with those values. Canadian casino enthusiasts recognize PointsBet as a trusted leader in igaming, and this collaboration further enhances the exceptional experience we offer.”
According to H2 Gambling Capital, a gambling sector market data provider, commercial operators in Ontario have a 78% market share, while the government’s Ontario Lottery and Gaming has 16% and unregulated offshore platforms 5%. There are currently 50 licensed operators in Ontario.
So content is king. Play’n GO entered the Ontario market in 2022 and expanded its operations into Quebec earlier this year.
Said Magnus Olsson, Chief Commercial Officer at Play’n GO, “Back in 2022, I said that ‘North America is right at the top of Play’n GO’s priority list, and Ontario is just the first step we plan to take’. This partnership with PointsBet shows we have yet to take our foot off the gas. We’ve proudly watched our games become instant hits in our two and a half years in the Ontarian region, and we have no plans to slow down any time soon.
“It’s exciting to team up with a fellow Canadian Gaming Association member in PointsBet, and we can confidently say that we are working towards the same goal of a safe, regulated industry that is focused on player entertainment. We’re looking forward to working closely together following this milestone announcement.”
