Paris Saint-Germain secured a 1-0 victory over Girona FC on Wednesday night at the Parc des Princes. The capital club escaped with a narrow win, but in this contest, Warren Zaïre-Emery made UEFA Champions League history.
The Parisians recorded 26 total shots in the game against the Spanish side while also having three big chances missed. Overall it was a frustrating night for Luis Enrique and his team regarding the finishing.
Nonetheless, the home side secured the win thanks to an error from Girona goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga. Despite the contest being close, PSG could celebrate, and during this match, Zaïre-Emery joined a Real Madrid star in an impressive Champions League fact.
OptaJean pointed out on X that Zaïre-Emery, at 18 years and 194 days, is the second-youngest player to make 15 Champions League appearances, just behind Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham, who did it at 18 years and 148 days.
In the match against Girona, the Frenchman played all 90 minutes and had 77 touches. He also recorded three key passes and completed 57 of 61 passes, for a 93 percent pass completion percentage.
Even though he’s still a teenager, Zaïre-Emery will have to play a prominent role if the Parisians hope to have another deep Champions League run.
