Cardiff City interim manager Omer Riza has travelled to Malaysia to hold talks with club owner Vincent Tan.
Riza, 44, had been seeking clarity over his position having been in the temporary role since Erol Bulut’s dismissal two months ago.
It is yet not known whether the face-to-face discussions are a signal that Riza will be given the chance to lead the Championship side on a permanent basis.
Following last weekend’s defeat to Blackburn Rovers, the former Watford coach said he did not know if he would remain in the Cardiff dugout after the current international break.
Cardiff had been keen to explore all managerial options after sacking Bulut on 22 September following a run that saw the side pick up just one point from their opening eight league fixtures of 2024-25.
Riza was installed to allow the club to take their time in the search for a new boss, which has been led by chief executive Ken Choo.
But there was also a willingness to give Riza a chance to impress after the former Arsenal player made it clear he felt able to succeed in the job.
Despite a lack of frontline management experience, Riza has overseen a marked improvement in form and playing style, with 14 points collected from his nine games in charge.
Riza is said to have had a healthy relationship with Tan during his time at the helm, with regular telephone conversations between the two taking place.
But this will be the first time they have spoken in person, with at least some clarity over the situation expected as a result.
There have been calls – including from former Cardiff and Wales striker Nathan Blake – for the club to make a swift decision.
