The Buffalo Sabres are actively looking to add to their roster right now. Their biggest need is another top-six forward, and the San Jose Sharks have an intriguing one in Mikael Granlund.
Granlund is a player to keep an eye on this season. He is in the final season of his contract, and the Sharks are rebuilding. Thus, if the Sharks and Granlund do not have a contract extension finalized later in the season, the 32-year-old could be made available. If he is, the Sabres should make a real push for him.
Since being traded to the Sharks, Granlund has played some of the best hockey of his career. This past season, he had 12 goals and 60 points in 69 games with San Jose. He has not slowed down this campaign, either, as he has six goals and 16 points in his first 16 games. This kind of production would be significant for the Sabres to add to their lineup.
Granlund also provides value because of his ability to play both down the middle and on either wing. Because of this, he could fit virtually anywhere in the Sabres’ top six if acquired. Thus, he would have the potential to be a big-time addition to Buffalo’s roster.
