For the third straight year, Seahawks Legends Doug Baldwin, Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril are bringing the Champions of Change All-Star Basketball Game to Climate Pledge arena to raise money for several good causes.
The game, which tips off at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 28 (get your tickets here), will benefit Alimentando al Puelblo, the Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic, Black Folks in Design and Houston Freedmen’s Town Conservancy. You can find more information on all of those organizations here.
Bennett, Avril and Baldwin launched Champions of Change in an effort to use their platforms as Seahawks Legends and Super Bowl champions to give back by funding and supporting local organizations that share their vision and demonstrate “a clear commitment to creating lasting change within communities, focusing on initiatives that provide comprehensive support to families in need.”
“One thing that was really important to us when we were playing here was that we wanted to be active in the community,” Baldwin said last year. “Seattle has been very welcoming and open to us in terms of bringing us along as part of this community and family. We were presented and blessed with a platform, so we wanted to utilize that to do some good in a community that recognized us as one of their own. As we were doing that, we noticed we were showing up in similar places all the time, so myself, Cliff and Mike B basically said, ‘Why don’t we do this together?'”
Seahawks assistant head coach, Leslie Frazier, an NFL coaching veteran, joined NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks to talk all things Seahawks, including the secondary, coaching philosophies and his experience in Seattle so far.
The Seahawks wrapped up minicamp a few weeks ago and are making their way towards training camp, where all the Seahawks coaches will be able to get a better idea of the kind of team that they are working with.
Frazier talked about trying to build a strong secondary and what exactly is needed to have an elite level defense.
“One thing we’re trying to instill in those guys is a love for each other and respect for each other’s games,” Frazier said. “Because when you have that level of respect for one another, it has a chance to take you game to a whole other level.”
Working closely with head coach Mike Macdonald, Frazier talked about what it’s like being an assistant head coach, wanting to help Macdonald be the best and the characteristics one needs for an assistant head coaching job.
“I think it’s so important to be a selfless individual. You really have to take the approach that ‘I’m going to be a servant in this role.’ And you have to be egoless… You have to be a person that is OK with not getting the credit.” Frazier added, “The beauty about what I’m doing in Seattle is… I have a chance to be involved with the entire team. I’m working with our offense, our special teams and obviously with our defense as well. And then being able to assist Mike and help Mike Macdonald be the best head coach he can be.”
The Seahawks announced their 2024 Training Camp dates this week, along with themes for the practices. Nine public Training Camp practices will be open to fans from July 24 to August 8. Registration is open for all public Seahawks Training Camp dates here.
The Seahawks are also proud to announce Safeway as the official partner of Seahawks Community. Last week, Seahawks staff and Safeway volunteers participated in the annual Seahawks Teammate Day of Service: visiting five different locations to help out and make a difference around Seattle.
