BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (BRPROUD) — The Southwestern Athletic Conference made changes to men’s and women’s basketball tournaments that will change the number of teams and set scheduling. The council also will let football teams review in-game footage on the field.
At the spring meeting, the SWAC Council of Presidents and Chancellors recently opted to increase the number of teams participating in SWAC tourneys from eight to 10.
“The 2026 SWAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments will feature all 12 men’s and women’s teams in action,” according to a news release from SWAC.
Changes to scheduling for the 2024-25 year mean women’s league games will be played on Thursdays and Saturdays, and men’s league games will be played on Saturdays and Mondays.
Starting in the 2024 season, teams will have access to tablets to watch in-game video from the sideline. The Conference Office will provide the technology, which can be used “on the sideline, locker room and coaches’ booths to study the game broadcast feed as well as camera angles from a team’s sideline and end zone,” according to the news release.
