Every year during the NFL Draft cycle, there’s always one or two prospects who seem to come out of nowhere during the bowl circuits and provide some excitement on how high they can rise. With his acceptance to the senior bowl this week, Taylor Elgersma is that prospect:
#NFLDraft Listen, Taylor Elgersma has been picking up some steam in the NFL Draft community as a signal caller, and him going to the Senior Bowl? Just means that Mobile is now must-see-TV (or streaming. or following @JimNagy_SB and @seniorbowl on social media)

Standing at 6-5 and 213 lbs, Taylor has had an interesting career, to say the least. This past season, Taylor tossed for 4,011 yards, 34 touchdowns, and 10 INTs while adding 223 yards and 6 touchdowns on the ground as well, so he’s very productive.
He also was the recipient of the Hec Creighton Trophy, essentially the Canadian version of the Heisman trophy with his performance. With the tall frame, he also possesses a cannon strapped to his right arm:

Having watched the tape on him, I can tell you there is plenty to be excited about with the arm talent, strength, and athletic ability. He will need some work on his pre and post-snap processing, as he’s a little underdeveloped in this area and forces throws he often shouldn’t.
When I watched through the film, one name kept popping back into my head when I saw his arm talent and athleticism: Paxton Lynch (former r1 selection for the Denver Broncos.) By no means am I saying that Taylor is a round 1 prospect as he’s probably a draftable talent in rounds 6-7 based on the traits alone. But when you see his film compared to Paxton’s, it’s very similar in a lot of the highs and lows as well.
In addition, there will be the level of competition concerns, as Canadian football is of the same equivalence as division 3 football here in the U.S., but scouts and analysts alike are excited to see Taylor at the senior bowl and showcase his toolkit for NFL Evaluators. It’s called the National Football League for a reason, and Taylor is looking to make a name for himself as the next big thing from the great white north.
