A teenager is accused of stabbing a relative on Sunday evening in Winnipeg’s Westdale neighbourhood — the second stabbing incident between family members on the weekend.
Police officers were called to a home at 6 p.m. and provided emergency medical treatment to a man in his 20s with upper body injuries from being stabbed, they said in a news release on Monday.
The man was taken to hospital in unstable condition and was later upgraded to stable, police said.
The 17-year-old accused of the stabbing remained at the scene and was arrested for assault and assault causing bodily harm.
Police said the man and the accused are related and had been drinking alcohol when a fight broke out, which led to the stabbing.
Another person at the residence called police, the news release said.
Police were also called to a stabbing on Saturday in which a woman in her 40s suffered “significant injuries” after she was allegedly stabbed by a family member.
The two relatives were drinking alcohol in a residence on McPhillips Street between Manitoba and Aberdeen avenues when they started arguing, police said.
Officers from the North District, including the tactical support team, went to the residence around 2:45 p.m. and provided emergency medical treatment to the woman, who was taken to hospital in unstable condition and was later upgraded to stable.
A 29-year-old woman accused of the stabbing was arrested at the scene and charged with aggravated assault and failing to comply with conditions of an undertaking.
The accused was detained in custody.
