Teen charged with attempted murder following attack in St. John’s

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary has charged a 17-year-old male with attempted murder following what it calls a serious attack that happened near the Village Mall two weeks ago.

The attack happened on Nov. 6 in the area of Curling Place. The RNC says it responded to the attack just before 11:30 a.m. and a woman was found with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The attack put six schools in the area into a secure mode, which kept students in place for an extra hour while police searched for the suspect, who had fled the scene.

In a news release on Monday, the RNC said the teen had been charged with aggravated assault, uttering threats, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and breaches. His charges have now been elevated to attempted murder, and is expected to appear in provincial court on Monday.

The male and the victim of the attack are known to each other, according to the RNC.
