Errigal Ciaran assistant manager Peter Horisk believes brothers Ruairi and Darragh Canavan will “continue to excel” at club and county level.
Ruairi fired 0-6 to help his side win the Tyrone Senior Football Championship title by dethroning holders Trillick by 0-12 to 1-8 last weekend.
And when asked if Ruairi was finally starting to emerge from brother Darragh’s shadow with his recent display, Horisk was diplomatic with his answer.
“Not too many times would Ruairi say he’s in anybody’s shadow!” Horisk told BBC Sport NI.
“They are two good lads, their parents have brought them up well and I’m sure they will continue to excel whatever they do.”
Horisk admits the overriding feeling after winning the O’Neill Cup for a ninth time in the tense decider last Saturday was that of “relief”.
“We knew going into it that it would a be a battle, and it could have gone either way because it came down to that point we got by Ruairi,” he explained.
“Relief was the big thing you could see in all the boys’ faces afterwards; we knew Trillick had set the barometer the last number of years, so it was good to get over it in a tight game.”
Errigal Ciaran will now meet St Eunan’s of Letterkenny in the Ulster Senior Club Football Championship preliminary round at Healy Park on Saturday.
And Horisk is prepared for another tightly contested encounter in Omagh against a side that claimed their 16th Donegal title after beating Dungloe in the final.
“St Eunan’s are a super team, they’ve been there [latter stages of the Donegal Championship] in the last four years, won two finals and lost in another, so they’re serious.
“Donegal football is always really competitive and St Eunan’s have a very strong forward line and midfield, and they have a real tough defence, so it will be another battle.”
