Another day, another Brandon Aiyuk story. Ryan Clark of ESPN reported that Aiyuk and the San Francisco 49ers would hold a meeting with Adam Schefter, confirming that Washington called the 49ers to check on Aiyuk’s availability. Aiyuk responded to the story on Instagram, saying, “I thought they weren’t trying to trade me.”
Today, some light was shed on the meeting between the 49ers and Aiyuk. Tom Pelissero of NFL Network says Aiyuk and 49ers brass met on Monday at Aiyuk’s request.
“This was a good meeting. Both sides said things that needed to be said, and they are going to keep working. There hasn’t never been a trade request from Brandon Aiyuk. That hasn’t changed. The 49ers’ stance hasn’t changed either, despite getting trade calls on Aiyuk going back to draft week. They are moving forward, and they want Aiyuk to be a part of the team in 2024.”
Pelissero finished up by saying both sides will take the Fourth of July holiday off before going back to work on hammering out an extension for the former ASU receiver.
The soft deadline is July 23rd when the 49ers veterans report for training camp. Last season, Nick Bosa’s contract negotiations went through camp right before Week 1, which Brian Baldinger discussed in the clip below, saying Bosa realized with no offseason that it hindered his season.
The negotiations continue, and Aiyuk’s upcoming appearance on the Pivot Podcast with Ryan Clark should shed more light on his thought process and negotiations.
