The Tourist Office of Spain in Canada hosted an evening in Toronto to welcome Isabel Martín Benítez, the newly appointed Consul for Tourism Affairs.
The incoming Consul was joined by travel industry professionals and media for Spanish wines and tapas, along with a presentation highlighting developments in Spain’s growing tourism industry slated for 2025.
Titled “Immerse Yourself in the Flavours of Spain” the event was held at Casa Paco Restaurant. In speaking to the industry professionals and media members present, the newly appointed Consul shared encouraging news about Spanish tourism, noting that from January to September, 520,000 Canadian visitors explored the destination.
Looking ahead to 2025, Martín Benítez was optimistic about the future of Spanish tourism. She predicted that tourism arrivals will remain positive, with ForwardKeys data showing a 27% increase in bookings for the next six months compared to the previous year.
Spain’s accessibility from major gateways like Toronto, Calgary, and Montreal is buoyed by direct flights from some of Canada’s largest operators, including Air Canada, Air Transat, and WestJet.
To illustrate the country’s enduring appeal to the Canadian market, Martín Benítez highlighted a robust slate of 2025 events and attractions, highlighting Spanish gastronomy, culture and heritage. She also took time to reaffirm Spain’s commitment to sustainable tourism initiatives, espousing the importance of developing key strategies for reducing the impact of tourism on local communities.
Martín Benítez also touted the Spain Specialist Program, which makes it easier than ever to learn about the destination through webinars and FAM trip opportunities. The Tourist Office of Spain also confirmed that plans are in motion to connect with more Canadian industry members at events and tourism conferences in Calgary, Toronto, and Vancouver.
“Building off the incredible welcome we have received here tonight, Spain will only continue to build a stronger relationship with the Canadian market,” said Martín Benítez. “We look forward to showing more from Spain in Canada in 2025.”
