Environment Canada is alerting residents of Toronto and neighbouring communities of potentially hazardous weather conditions Tuesday, Feb. 18.
The national agency issued a winter weather travel advisory for the city and surrounding municipalities, coming after a similar alert had been issued on Monday night.
The latest weather updates are available on the Environment Canada website.
The national agency said snowfall amounts near five centimetres are possible Tuesday, as well as poor visibility at times in snow and local blowing snow, particularly over exposed areas.
This weather is expected to continue into the evening.
“A band of lake effect snow has moved into the area. In addition, gusty winds may produce local blowing snow, reducing visibility. Snow will end and winds will diminish this evening,” the advisory said.
“Travel may be hazardous due to sudden changes in the weather.”
People are advised to be prepared for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.
“If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop,” the advisory said.
