THE UTTAR Pradesh government has planned to invest around Rs 43,000 crore to expand and modernise the electricity network in the state. Officials said on Wednesday that the move was aimed at an upgrade of the entire infrastructure — from meters to feeders.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently reviewed a presentation in this connection in a meeting with senior officials of the power department. The presentation proposed separate fund allocation for all five DISCOMs of the state.
Thus, the largest allocation of over Rs 12,000 crore has been earmarked for Dakshinchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd. Additionally, projects worth more than Rs 1,309 crore have been launched for Varanasi district.
Plans are in place to revamp Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd with an investment of Rs 8759.87 crore.
Proposals worth a total of Rs 42,968.55 crore have been made for all five DISCOMs, including Rs 10146 crore for Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd, Rs 1,2300 crore for Dakshinchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd, Rs 10563 crore for Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd, and Rs 1,198 crore for KESCO.
CM Adityanath also instructed the officials concerned to swiftly complete the installation of smart meters at a budget of Rs 29,619 crore.
Also, Rs 917 crore will be spent on electrification of over two and a half lakh houses in Purvanchal, Madhyanchal, and Dakshinanchal DISCOM areas.
In Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s parliamentary constituency of Varanasi, over Rs 1,309 crore would be invested to strengthen the electricity network. This includes Rs 307.70 crore for the smart distribution process, Rs 513.58 crore for underground electrical infrastructure, and Rs 488.10 crore for modernisation and expansion.
