B.C.’s capital city is among the top 10 travel destinations for domestic travellers in Canada this summer, according to travel search engine KAYAK.
On Wednesday, KAYAK released its list of the top 10 most-searched for cities by domestic travellers in Canada, and British Columbia was home to three of those locales, the most out of any single province in the country.
Victoria was the eighth-most searched city in Canada for domestic travellers, and had the second-highest average airfare, just behind Kelowna, B.C.
Average airfare to Victoria was $499, while Kelowna’s rang in at $513. The least expensive tickets on the list were to Toronto at $366, while the city itself was the third most-searched for location on the list, behind Calgary in first and Vancouver in second.

“We’re pleased, but maybe not surprised by the most popular cities this season,” said KAYAK in its release Wednesday.
“For destinations within Canada, all your mainstays are represented: Calgary, Toronto, Montreal and Victoria. Whereas cities like Kelowna are getting their moment in the sun after seeing sudden, impressive spikes in interest.”
KAYAK made its list by analyzing searches on its site between Nov. 1, 2023 to March 15, 2024 for flights in Canada planned for May 17 to Sept. 9.
That data was also compared to the same time periods the year before, while flight prices were determined by compiling the average cost for round-trip flights in economy class to each city on the top 10 list, departing from anywhere in Canada.
Internationally, the top five cities that Canadians are interested in travelling to this summer, in order of popularity, are: London, England – Paris, France – Tokyo, Japan, Rome, Italy and Lisbon, Portugal.
