It’s been a busy few weeks for Keir Starmer and his wife Lady Victoria who has supportingly been by his side throughout the election campaign, and whilst politics has dominated the headlines over the past months, Victoria’s outfit choices have also stolen the spotlight with much of the media commenting on how chic the new Prime Minister’s ‘first lady’ is, and we have to agree.
With a wardrobe full of politically correct, modest midi dresses by high-end labels like ME+EM which are loved by influential women such as Catherine The Princess of Wales it seems Victoria already has an enviable wardrobe in waiting for undertaking her important new role.
Stepping off the plane in Washington D.C accompanied by her husband, the Prime Minister’s wife just showcased another stunning look that immediately caught the attention of the style crowd. For her first visit across the pond, Victoria chose a £450 white lace-detailed midi dress from another favourite brand of hers Needle & Thread which features on-trend scalloped detail around the neckline and hemline. The ‘Lace knit gown’ as it’s described by the label, is still available to buy in the full size range and also comes in pink, blue and green. She accessorised the figure-flattering midi simply with metallic heels and elegant gold hoop earrings.
It appears the mum of two is a particular fan of UK brand Needle & Thread, another luxury label that has also been worn by Catherine, Princess Of Wales on occasion. Earlier this month, before Keir’s landslide win, the couple joined King Charles and Queen Camilla at the State Banquet for Japan’s Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako and Victoria chose to wear their heart lattice ankle gown which retails at £725 here.
The glamorous design which features a showstopping cape detail and ethereal sequin embellishments in a champagne hue was also reminiscent of an iconic Kate Middleton red carpet moment- remember the sensational gold cape Jenny Packham gown she wore to the Bond premiere? It seems Victoria might be taking style notes from the nation’s favourite leading lady.
The new first lady has also officially set the summer trend for the LRD (little red dress). Last week, the 50-year-old joined her husband at Downing Street for his first address after officially becoming PM and she chose she donned a fitting red ‘Labour’ dress from royally-loved brand ME+EM and fashion fans were so impressed with the look that it actually caused a mass sellout, call it the ‘Victoria effect.’
Due to its popularity, The contrast stitch midi dress, which retails at £275 appears to now have been re-stocked if you want to snap one up for yourself – it’s also available in a black colourway for those who prefer a classic LBD. This sleek design will stand the test of time so worthy of the investment.
On General Election Lady Victoria stole our votes in another classic wardrobe staple, a red £445 cotton-blend poplin dress by JONATHAN SIMKHAI. It’s currently available to buy online at Net-a-Porter in a deeper crimson shade. You can also snap up the Cleo pin-tucked cotton-blend poplin mini dress, which is shorter in style, in the summer sale for £189.
Showing support for her husband in the party’s campaign colour the sophisticated shirt dress was an apt choice for a sunny July afternoon.
With a love for modest midi dresses, wearing similar brands, and nailing the glamorous dress code on official state dinners, we’re left wondering what other rules Lady Victoria be taking from Kate Middleton’s style book. Will a recycled outfit or two be on the cards or maybe she’ll choose a look from an affordable high street name, M&S, Zara, Hobbs? Either way, we can’t wait to see what Lady Vic’s luxe wardrobe has in store for us next…
