One student in the line could be heard, saying, “I came here around 12 noon, and the line was really huge. We put the application on the internet and were told that an interview would be taken. But nothing like that happened. People are just coming here. I don’t believe there is scope for jobs here. It is really tough”
Another student added, “It’s so bad; it’s like everyone is looking for a job, and no one is getting a job properly. So many of my friends don’t have a job right now, and they have been here for 2-3 years.”
Earlier this month, the Canadian government announced a cut in the number of study permits granted to international students and also introduced stricter foreign worker regulations, a move expected to affect many Indian students.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau posted on X, “We’re granting 35% fewer international student permits this year. And next year, that number’s going down by another 10%. Immigration is an advantage for our economy – but when bad actors abuse the system and take advantage of students, we crack down.”
