York Region police say they are searching for at least three suspects after they stole a suitcase with a “quantity of cash” in a violent daytime robbery captured on video.
The alleged robbery unfolded on Tuesday at about 5:10 p.m. at the exit of a commercial plaza in the area of Yonge Street and Meadowview Avenue in Thornhill.
A man was driving his vehicle through the plaza parking lot when he was suddenly boxed in by a Lexus SUV and a Mercedes sedan, police said in a news release Thursday.
Three suspects wearing dark clothing exited the vehicles and forced the victim’s driver door open, video published online by York police shows. They then assaulted the victim and stole a black carry-on style suitcase with money in it from the victim’s SUV, according to police.

The victim suffered minor injuries, police said.
The suspects then get into the Mercedes sedan and both the Mercedes and Lexus SUV speed away, the video shows.
Police called the robbery “targeted” and described the suspects as males who spoke with “Middle Eastern” accents. Investigators do not have descriptions of the drivers of the suspect vehicles.
The Lexus SUV was white with licence plate DCDL 270. It had been reported stolen in Toronto earlier on Tuesday. The Mercedes sedan was white with licence plate CKDY 286, though the plate was not registered to the vehicle, police said.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to contact York police’s hold-up unit or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.
