The report comes from Brampton, Canada, where a video captures a staggering scene: a long line of people waiting outside the Tandoori Flame restaurant—not for a meal, but for a chance to interview for waiter and servant positions at a new restaurant opening nearby. Shockingly, around 3,000 students, primarily Indian, gathered to submit their resumes.
One job seeker commented, “People are just coming here and dropping off their resumes. They are going to shortlist the candidates. I don’t believe there’s scope for job here. It’s really tough.”
Another echoed the frustration, adding, “It’s so bad, its like everyone is looking for a job and no one is getting job properly. So many of my friends don’t have a job right now and they have been here for 2-3 years.”
The X post, which accompanied the video, drives home the stark reality: “Students leaving India for Canada with rosy dreams need serious introspection!”
The comments section echoed the alarm sparked by the video.
One user remarked, “Alarming, if true. Canada is facing massive unemployment. Didn’t see this number of youths lined up for a job at new restaurants even in India.”
Another shared a personal story:
This is fact.
One of my friend who is MBA & have quality work experience went to Canada for better job prospects and then returned back after one & Half year of stay over there.— Manoj Giri (@2GManoj) October 3, 2024
One pointed out the paradox, saying: “They will accept any job there but feel shy doing the same job here in India. Of course working conditions and payments are far better than India in Canada.”
Another pointed out that the study abroad system itself is crooked and is bound to break in the next 3-4 years:
The study abroad agent nexus is so so broken.
Step 1. Student wants to study in a particular field A in a country like US, Canada, Germany, etc
Step 2. The agent would take the documents and apply on behalf of the student in a completely different field B and a private…— Digvijay Karamchandani (@digvijaykaram) October 3, 2024
One comment hit hard: “The worst part is that most of them are engineers ,MBA holders and IT engineers who had job in India with up to 100k RS a month salary coming here for the Canada dream !! These students are depressed and struggling ! Everything that glitters is not gold !!! Stay away.”
