Emma-Jayne Wilson, who recorded a historic triumph in the 2007 King’s Plate aboard Mike Fox, is on the cusp of eclipsing Hall of Fame jockey Julie Krone for all-time purse earnings by a female rider.
Krone, who retired in 2004, holds the mark of US$90,126,584. Going into Saturday’s card, Wilson is US$30,829 away from the record.
In 2000, Krone became the first woman inducted into the National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame. Three years later, she was the first female jockey to ride a Breeders’ Cup winner, Halfbridled in Juvenile Fillies, among her record 3,704 career victories.
She welcomes Wilson’s pursuit of her earnings record.
“It’s awesome,” said Krone.
Early on in her career, Wilson had the opportunity to speak with the legendary rider.
“Julie’s success on the racetrack is only surpassed by the first-class person she is,” praised Wilson. “She is an inspiration to me and so many others.”
Wilson has six mounts Saturday at Woodbine including Unifying in the Hendrie (G3).
