Because of the extreme heat forecasted for the Toronto area Sunday, Woodbine has made the decision in consultation with the Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association and the commissioned veterinarian to cancel Sunday’s live racing to protect the safety of the horses and all racing participants.
Environment Canada, the country’s official weather agency, predicted a high temperature of about 86 degrees Fahrenheit, for Sunday, with a 40 percent chance of showers.
The Victoria Stakes was rescheduled to Friday.
Live racing is scheduled to return Thursday, when the high temperature is expected to be about 75 degrees. No rain is in the forecast through the weekend. Post time Thursday is 4:50 p.m. EDT.
