Inter Miami suffered an uncharacteristic stumble on Wednesday after drawing 2-2 with Atlanta United.
This back-and-forth affair kept fans entertained, especially in the final 10 minutes. A changed line-up saw Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez start this one on the bench, and instead, David Ruiz delivered the opener.
A howler from Drake Callander allowed Saba Lobzjanidze to pull level, but Atlanta went behind again 2-1 thanks to a wicked deflection on Leonardo Campana’s free-kick three minutes later.
Then chaos unfolded…
Inter Miami brought on the big guns in the dying minutes, only for Brad Guzan to make a big save on Messi before Suarez’s effort was cleared off the line.
Then in the blink of an eye, new summer signing Aleksei Miranchuk scored his first MLS goal from range to deny the visitors all three points.
What a night for the hosts, who now sit 11th in the Eastern table.
Meanwhile, LAFC will love this slip from Miami and could move ahead in the race for the Supporters’ Shield if they win their two games in hand.
