Anthony Gordon is not a popular figure on Merseyside, but it was the Everton fans enjoying his return in the first half of their clash with Newcastle.
The Newcastle and England forward, who left Everton in acrimonious circumstances in January 2023, was deployed through the middle for Newcastle’s trip to Goodison Park, but was struggling to get into the game.
However, a foul from James Tarkowski off the ball handed him a golden chance to play the pantomime villain from the spot, a week on from scoring against Manchester City.
But he saw his effort from 12 yards saved by long-time teammate Jordan Pickford, sending the Everton fans wild in the process.
As a former Sunderland man, Pickford will have quite enjoyed the save too.
Can Gordon have the last laugh in the second half?
