Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged two people months after a teen riding in a golf cart was killed in a crash east of Ottawa.

OPP originally said on Aug. 27, 2023, that a 15-year-old had died from injuries suffered in a crash in Clarence-Rockland the previous day and that officers were investigating.

A follow-up news release issued Wednesday contained more details.

Police said the single-vehicle crash in the community of Bourget within Clarence-Rockland involved “a modified golf cart.”

They again did not name the victim.

A 17-year-old is charged with one count of dangerous operation causing death, and one count of operation causing death.

A 45-year-old is charged with causing death by criminal negligence, meaning it’s alleged they showed “wanton or reckless disregard for the lives or safety of other persons,” according to the Criminal Code.
