Spain international Aitana Bonmati has signed a contract extension with Barcelona until the summer of 2028.
Bonmati joined the Spanish club aged 11 and has gone on to make 275 appearances across all competitions.
The 26-year-old won the Ballon d’Or in 2023 and has been nominated for the award again this year.
Some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Women’s Super League champions Chelsea, were reportedly interested in Bonmati over the summer.
Bonmati scored the opening goal as Barcelona beat Lyon 2-0 in the Champions League final last season.
She also played an integral role as they won a fifth successive league title, while also lifting the Copa de la Reina and Supercopa de Espana in 2023-24.
The midfielder was a key part of Spain’s success at the 2023 World Cup, starting all seven games and scoring two goals.
Bonmati has won 23 trophies, including lifting the Champions League on three occasions, since making her senior debut for the Catalan outfit in 2015-16.
She is Barcelona’s all-time top goalscorer, registering on 96 occasions across all competitions.
