MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Ramón Jesurún, the head of soccer’s governing body in Colombia, was arrested amid chaos at the Copa America soccer tournament in Miami Gardens, according to Miami-Dade jail records and a Colombian media report.
Jesurún, the president of the Colombian Football Federation and a vice president with CONMEBOL, the group that puts on Copa America, is facing three counts of battery on a specified official or employee.
The 71-year-old was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center just after 4:15 a.m. Monday, according to jail records.
Details on his arrest weren’t immediately clear Monday, though Colombian media outlet Publimetro reports that Jesurún got into an altercation at Hard Rock Stadium during the Copa America final between his country and Argentina.
According to the outlet, a video shared by Fox Sports Mexico showed the brawl.
Local 10 News has requested a copy of his arrest report. Jesurún was scheduled to appear in Miami-Dade bond court Monday afternoon.
His bond had yet to be set, according to jail records.
