Members of the K-pop boy band Seventeen have proved, time and again, that they love to showcase their up-to-date fashion through their concert looks as well as their casual, everyday appearances. All of its members – S.Coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, DK, Mingyu, The8, Vernon, Dino and Seungkwan – bring a daring, bold and unique sense of personal style to the group.
This is especially true for Kim Min-gyu aka Mingyu, the lead vocalist and rapper of the boy band who has become a prominent figure in the world of fashion thanks to his frequent appearances at fashion shows, collaborations with high-end brands and a sense of style that combines a contemporary aesthetic with a down-to-earth vibe.
In 2022, Mingyu was appointed as the ambassador for Lancome and the following year, was named the global model for the Korean skincare brand Innisfree. By March 2024, the rapper had become the local ambassador for the Italian luxury brand Bvlgari and in May of the same year, was announced as the Asian brand ambassador for L’Occitane.
Be it rehearsing on stage with his fellow band members, posing for selfies with fans, attending fashion events or simply enjoying a day off, the K-pop artist oozes a laid-back style with a boy-next-door charm while also embracing experimental trends and high-fashion brands like Versace, Burberry, Louis Vuitton, Prada and Fendi.
In fact, all it takes is a quick scroll through the rockstar’s Instagram to discover his interest in the latest fashion trends. On that note, let’s take a look at some of Seventeen-member Mingyu’s memorable fashion moments throughout the years.
Mingyu’s fashion highlights begin with his knowledge of micro-style trends. Among his recent appearances, one standout look is his understated yet sophisticated ensemble for a Calvin Klein event in Paris. He pulled off a navy blue trench coat and trousers, complemented by a crisp white t-shirt. The outfit was completed with sleek black dress shoes, giving off an aura that is often associated with front-row attendees at fashion week.
To paraphrase Miranda Priestly, Florals for men? Groundbreaking! While Preistly’s comment in The Devil Wears Prada was sarcastic, we believe that floral patterns on men can be quite attention-grabbing, be it on shirts, matching sets, jackets or even denims.
For instance, K-pop idol Mingyu rocked a black and white floral jacket, a white t-shirt, loose trousers and chunky shoes at Louis Vuitton‘s Women’s Pre-Fall 2023 presentation, in the process demonstrating how men should be embracing florals.
There’s a reason why monochrome outfits are always in fashion – they personify the saying ‘simple yet effective’.
It seems like this is a lesson the K-pop artist is aware of as he made a bold choice by donning a remarkable cobalt-blue suit while opting to go shirtless, embracing yet another prominent micro-fashion trend. He completed his look with a vibrant neon green bag.
Mingyu demonstrated his fashion prowess yet again by donning a Burberry co-ord set adorned with the British label’s iconic monogram. This ensemble is ideal for men seeking to explore their style options in the sweltering heat. With his poolside photoshoot exuding summer vibes, the singer serves as the perfect inspiration for men struggling to embrace summer fashion.
Wearing outfits with prominent logos, such as those featuring all-over monograms, can be a risky move if not styled correctly. This wasn’t an issue for Mingyu, who flawlessly put together a bomber jacket, t-shirt and shorts from the Fendi x Versace collaboration (also known as Fendace) which highlights monograms from both prestigious Italian brands. To enhance the overall look, he also wore matching monogram sneakers and a chic crossbody bag. We can’t help but stan!
Once a cult favourite in the early 2000s, Velour tracksuits are currently experiencing a resurgence. This isn’t too surprising, given that tracksuits have become a staple in today’s fashion scene, with virtually every brand offering its own stylish take. Mingyu too has taken to the trend as he was spotted wearing a timeless navy blue velour tracksuit, complemented by a pair of classic white sneakers and a neckpiece.
Who says tweed is just for women? After all, its appeal transcends gender norms.
Designers have also been incorporating it in their collections, often showcasing classic pieces like blazers and jackets in tweed. Mingyu isn’t one to miss out on a fashion trend as he too donned a stylish ensemble consisting of a grey tweed blazer, a black blouse adorned with a bow and black leather pants. Tens across the board!
