E-way links to water supply: Rs 223crore infra boost before polls – Times of India
GURGAON: Ahead of the upcoming assembly polls, CM Nayab Singh Saini on Thursday laid the foundation stones for four development projects and inaugurated another. The projects are aimed at improving water supply, sewerage and road connectivity in the city.
Addressing a gathering in Manesar, the CM said the most development works in Gurgaon have been carried out in the past 10 years under the BJP govts’ tenure.
The projects which were launched on Thursday are estimated to cost a total of Rs 223 crore. They include the construction of 7.5m-wide service roads on both sides of the Dwarka Expressway, which will provide better access to the expressway and reduce traffic congestion in nearby areas. At an estimated cost of Rs 99.5 crore, the 15.3km service roads, along with footpaths and surface drains, are likely to be ready by 2026.
Saini also laid the foundation stone for Chandu Budhera water treatment plant’s (WTP) fifth filtration unit, which will have a capacity of 100 million litres per day (MLD).
The WTP currently has a capacity of 300 MLD.
The addition of unit 4, which is already under construction, and the fifth unit will increase its total capacity to 500 MLD within the next two years, catering to the growing water demand in sectors 58 to 115.
The project, which is likely to cost around Rs 61 crore, is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
On Wednesday, GMDA’s board gave administrative approval for the construction of a sixth filtration unit of 100 MLD capacity at the Chandu Budhera water treatment plant at a cost of Rs 78 crore. The project will be completed two years after the allotment of work.
“We are working on augmenting the water supply in the city to cater the increasing demand, especially in the new developing areas. Now that the administrative approval for the sixth unit has been obtained, we are in the process of preparation of the DPR and tender documents. We will soon float a tender for this project. The fourth unit will be ready by the end of 2024, and the fifth and sixth by the end of 2025 and 2026, respectively,” said Rajesh Bansal, chief engineer of GMDA.
The Basai water plant will also soon get a new filtration unit of 100 MLD, which will be its fourth, at an estimated cost of around Rs 247 crore.
The CM also laid the foundation stone for the upgrade of the boosting station in Sector 16 (Part-1). Built in 1999, the station’s pumping capacity has increased from 45 MLD to 80 MLD over time.
However, the current system is insufficient to meet the present and future demand. The upgraded boosting station will cater to the projected demand of 154 MLD up to 2041 and ensure high-pressure water supply in tail-end areas such as DLF 1-4, South City-1, Udyog Vihar 1-5, Surya Vihar, Sikanderpur and Nathupur. This project will cost Rs 14.7 crores and is likely to be completed by June 2025.
Furthermore, GMDA will also lay master sewer lines in sectors 58 to 76. This will improve sewerage in the area at a cost of Rs 33.6 crore.
In addition to the foundation stone laying ceremony, CM Saini also inaugurated the master road linking IMT Manesar to Pataudi Road. The 3.4km stretch was revamped at a cost of Rs 13.1 crore, improving the road infrastructure for the industrial hub.
