With a third-round charge, Jordan Spieth, who won his first PGA Tour title at TPC Deere Run in 2013, will head into Sunday’s final round of the John Deere Classic with a chance to win his first title since the 2022 RBC Heritage. He will have plenty of competition, however, with Carson Young, C.T. Pan and Aaron Rai all figuring to be in the mix.
And then there is the continued storyline of Florida State rising junior Luke Clanton, who can’t cash a check but is again contending as an amateur after he tied for 10th in last week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic. A victory by Clanton, 20, would mark the first time in PGA Tour history that two amateurs won in the same season after Nick Dunlap captured The American Express in January and subsequently turned pro. As with that tournament, the winning check would go to the runner-up should Clanton triumph.
The total purse for the John Deere is $8 million, with $1.44 million going to the winner.
