There is no shock in seeing Callum McGregor’s Celtic top of the Premiership table, but it is somewhat surprising to catch the captain’s name leading the scoring charts.
A deep-lying midfielder, the six league goals the 31-year-old has scored this term is more than any other player in Scotland’s top flight.
The most recent of those strikes came on Saturday against Ross County, a stunning 20-yard effort in a 5-0 win.
In fact, all of McGregor’s six goals – against Hibernian, St Mirren, Rangers, St Johnstone, Kilmarnock and County – have all come from outside the box.
His current tally is also already more than he has managed in each of his last four seasons.
More impressively, McGregor’s six goals have come from just 16 shots – seven of which have been on target.
