Eloquent Montreal singer-songwriter Geoffroy releases his fourth studio album, Good Boy, today (June 14). It’s a bright new sound, with a diversified set of influences he only hinted at in the past. He calls this “a feel-good album that shed the weight of the other ones” and says he “was eager to step away from the nostalgia and melancholy I had visited and analyzed plenty in the past.” This positive vibe is boosted by musical textures that reflect his interest in cumbia and other Latin and African rhythmic styles.
That is showcased on the new single and video, “Early Morning Sun,” one that brings the Latin-accented work of Danny Michel to mind. Another advance track, “C.A.Y.A (Come as You Are),” has a similarly warm feel, with Geoffroy’s clean and intimate vocals to the fore, while “Hotel Bed” employs a Burundi drum crew to fine effect. Good Boy was recorded with longtime production partners Clément Leduc and Gabriel Gagnon, and it fuses organic and electronic instruments seamlessly.
On July 1, Geoffroy plays M Telus in Montreal, followed by August Quebec dates and five Western shows in September and more dates in Quebec, NYC and Toronto. Itinerary and tickets here.
