Ipswich Town set up a Women’s FA Cup fourth-round trip to three-time winners Manchester City by beating Bournemouth 1-0 at Felixstowe.
Sophie Peskett scored the only goal, just before half-time, from Kyra Robertson’s pass, but also hit the crossbar twice during the game.
Joe Sheehan’s side play in National League Southern Premier, two levels below Women’s Super League in which City were beaten 2-1 at Everton on Sunday.
Ipswich have lost in the fourth round in the past two seasons, to Charlton Athletic and Lewes, but made it all the way to the quarter-finals in 2022 before being beaten 1-0 by WSL side West Ham.
“Man City are a top, top team in the WSL, so it’s obviously going to be a really hard game but, as an individual, I’m really excited to see how far we’ve come over the last four or five years,” Peskett told BBC Radio Suffolk.
The two teams met previously in the fifth round in 2019-20 when Ipswich were a tier lower than they are now and lost 10-0.
“It will be a special occasion,” said manager Sheehan.
“There would have been some easier ties that would have required a little less planning and preparation, but that’s the tie we’re going to have to go and face and we’re under no illusions, we know how challenging this is going to be but, for a change, it’s going to be us with nothing to lose.
“It’s an opportunity to see our level and what we still need to work on. We found out a real harsh lesson last time, but if we can be a bit more competitive, it will be a good takeaway for us.
“There will be a bit of limelight around it that we’ll have to navigate, but when it does come around, we’ll really look forward to it.”
In other FA Cup replays, Bristol Rovers won 3-2 at Oxford United and Blackburn Rovers defeated Kidderminster Harriers 4-0.
The fourth round ties will be played on 12 January and Rovers will be away to Aston Villa, while Blackburn host Portsmouth.
