Kyle Clifford has been charged with the murders of Carol, Louise and Hannah Hunt in Hertfordshire in July, the Crown Prosecution Service said on Tuesday.
Mrs Hunt, wife of BBC racing commentator John Hunt, and her daughters were attacked in their home in Bushey on July 9.
Clifford, 26 was later arrested by police in Enfield. He has also been charged with two counts of possession of an offensive weapon and one count of false imprisonment.
He is due to appear remotely at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday morning.
Lisa Ramsarran, chief crown prosecutor for CPS Thames and Chiltern, said: “Our thoughts remain with the Hunt family and all those who have been affected by this tragic incident.
“As criminal proceedings are active, there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online that could prejudice the defendant’s right to a fair trial.”
