Negotiations are still underway between the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) and the union representing thousands of workers, ahead of Friday’s strike deadline.
The Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) represents over 9,000 workers who voted overwhelmingly for strike action last month. In its latest update, the union says members will be in a legal strike position as of 12:01 a.m. on Friday if a deal is not reached.
“LCBO’s focus remains on achieving a deal that is fair to bargaining unit employees and helps the LCBO continue to operate effectively and efficiently for Ontario in a new marketplace. We also have an obligation to be ready for any potential strike action and remain committed to providing the best service we can during this time,” reads a statement from LCBO.

In the event of a strike, all 30 LCBO retail stores will close for 14 days. Following this period, all stores will re-open for in-store shopping and operate three days a week (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
In preparation for the potential strike, the liquor corporation is advising customers to shop early and stock up before Thursday.
“Our shelves are well-stocked, and we are doing everything we can to maintain inventory levels.
Customers may wish to stock up on spirits and vintages products,” its website read.
Customers are reminded to pick up their online orders no later than Thursday. LCBO.com and its mobile app will also accept orders for free home delivery anywhere in Ontario for the duration of a strike.
LCBO says grocery stores, winery outlets, bars, restaurants and The Beer Store will not be impacted and will continue to receive orders.
