Windsor police have arrested one person after a robbery by knife point at an east-end restaurant Monday.

Police responded around 3:30 p.m. to a restaurant in the 6000 block of Tecumseh Road East for a report of a man threatening people with knives.

“Officers learned that the suspect had entered the business, locked the door behind him, and obtained knives from the kitchen,” police said in a statement.

“The suspect then cornered people inside the restaurant and threatened to stab them while wielding multiple knives. He also removed money from the cash register and tip jar.”

Police say officers negotiated the person’s surrender without incident and no physical injuries were reported.

Sofos, an east-end gyro shop, recounted the incident in a post to the restaurant’s Facebook page, saying the man had threatened staff.

“Stay safe everyone, this world has really gone mad,” the post read.

A 61-year-old man was arrested and charged with three counts each of assault with a weapon, forcible confinement, uttering threats, as well as two counts of breaching probation and account each of robbery and possession of a dangerous weapon.

Anyone in the vicinity is asked to check their dash or surveillance camera  footage around the time of the incident and contact the Major Crimes Unit or Crime Stoppers.
