A recent video from USA Basketball revealed that a surprising number of the NBA’s top stars can’t spin a a basketball on their fingers.
In the video posted to social media Sunday, members of Team USA were given a basketball and asked if they were able to do the popular basketball trick. Arguably the biggest surprise of that video came in the beginning, when Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry — known for his exceptional shooting and dribbling abilities — admitted that spinning a ball is something that’s eluded him.
“So, I can do a lot of things with a basketball — a lot of things,” Curry said. “That is the one thing that I cannot do.”
While LeBron James struggled, Boston Celtics guard Jrue Holiday, Los Angeles Lakers forward Anthony Davis, and Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant did it with ease. Durant then predicted that everyone else could do the same.
When Durant found out Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton couldn’t do it, he was stunned.
“Hali?” Durant asked. “At the point guard, don’t know how to do it?”
Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo attributed Haliburton’s struggles to his age.
“Oh, that’s Gen Z,” he said.
Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid didn’t even try after plainly stating he had no idea how to do it.
“Joel?” Durant said. “That’
s sickening. I thought he had more coordination than that.”
The video ended with Curry claiming that his inability to spin a ball was “one of the most embarrassing things.” When he tried and failed, he slammed the ball down and walking away.
