Pop singer and entertainment icon Paula Abdul was straight up with fans on social media this week, announcing the cancellation of a Canadian tour that included dates in both Regina and Saskatoon this fall.
Abdul — a renowned pop singer, dancer, choreographer and TV personality — had been slated to perform at Regina’s Brandt Centre on Oct. 8 and SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon on Oct. 9, but she was forced to cancel due to health issues.
“It’s with an incredibly heavy heart that I need to share with you an update regarding some injuries I’ve recently sustained,” she stated in an Instagram post Wednesday. “I’ve received targeted injections that will allow me temporary relief, but the demands of an entire tour is a different story.”
After consultations with doctors and exploring all options, she said the next step is a minor procedure that comes with a six- to eight-week recovery time. That will prevent Abdul from fulfilling her scheduled dates on the Straight Up! To Canada Tour as well as shows in Alaska and North Dakota.
Refunds are being made available at point of purchase, she noted.

Abdul first found the spotlight at age 18 as a cheerleader with the Los Angeles Lakers, eventually serving as head choreographer of the Laker Girls. She went on to become a prominent choreographer for music videos, TV shows and movies in addition to finding success as a solo performer. The Grammy-winning artist, who has sold more than 60-million records, is known more recently as one of the original American Idol judges.
Abdul’s tour was supposed to begin Sept. 25 in Victoria and end in Sydney, N.S. on Oct. 26, joined by fellow ’80s stars Taylor Dayne and Tiffany.
“I want to extend my deepest apologies to all my amazing fans in Canada and the US,” Abdul wrote. “You mean the world to me and this truly breaks my heart.
“Thank you for your love, your patience, and your understanding during this time.”
