GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -Members of Play Tennis Gainesville hosted their 3rd annual Juneteenth celebration.
The organization promotes health, wellness, and unity through teaching a shared love of tennis to all ages.
“We’re looking to do full-scale programs across the city so I want them to be all-inclusive no matter what level you are,” George Henry, the director of tennis shared. “Have the opportunity to learn tennis the proper way with proper instruction and have fun, take it as far as you want it to go.”
The event featured a free tennis coaching workshop, a skills challenge, dancers, a DJ, friendly matches, and a free lunch.
“Historically it {Juneteenth} has such a meaning and I didn’t want the month to go by and we not celebrate it,” Henry added. “There’s so many celebrations of Juneteenth and I wanted to give other people the opportunity to come out a little bit after before they go away for the 4th.”
Play Tennis Gainesville currently offers a tennis summer camp for ages six through 15 Monday through Friday.
