1. Vivezza has been placed in four of her five starts and ran well at Canterbury last time out when finishing second. This looks a nice race for her and she can break her maiden here.
Dangers: 2. Buffett didn’t do a lot in his first two starts but then showed improvement when finishing second at Wyong last time out when hitting the line well. He’s drawn to advantage here and should play a prominent part in the finish. 3. Waamil had two runs in Victoria midway through last year and was spelled after the second of them at Flemington. She’s had two trials leading into this and is capable of sprinting well fresh. 7. Lost Illusions ran fourth at Muswellbrook when resuming and she can make an impact with a repeat of that.
How to play it: Vivezza WIN
8. Zaphod is an Irish import that has only had two starts for a win and a third. He’s had two trials since joining the Kris Lees stable and the latest of them was solid.
Dangers: 3. Fernao is another Irish import that had two trials before making his Australian debut with a third at Canterbury in a solid display. He should be better for that experience and is set to give plenty of cheek. 11. Pier Pressure was group 1 placed as a two-year-old and she’s been contesting better grade races in Queensland of late without success. She will find this a much easier assignment. 10. Bianco Nero was midfield at Kembla Grange last time out and could sneak into the placings on her best form.
How to play it: Zaphod WIN
3. Alvina’s Luck has looked good with five placings from seven starts. She resumed with a solid second at Wyong and only needs to run up to that to be hard to hold out in this.
Dangers: 7. Lady Ichikawa finished second at this track when lining up for her third race start last October in a solid display, and was then spelled. She’s had a Wyong trial leading into this and should go well against these. 12. Tikiroo is a two-year-old colt on debut and he’s had two trials, showing improvement in the latest of them. 4. Classic Poetry has been placed in two of her three runs since resuming from a spell and she should figure prominently again with a repeat of those efforts.
How to play it: Alvina’s Luck WIN
6. Presides resumed from a spell with a solid second at Gosford, and followed that with another solid enough effort when fourth at Wyong. He’s drawn well here and should run well.
Dangers: 5. Monty Be Quick was a heavily backed favourite when making his Australian debut at Hawkesbury, and he didn’t have the best of luck at a crucial part of the straight. He can bounce back here. 12. Everybody Rise was placed on debut at Rosehill late last year, and since resumed from a spell on the back of two good trials with a second on the Kensington track. He looks suited against this company. 1. Ceremonious is resuming from a spell and has been placed in four of five starts. He’s had two trials leading into this and should be doing his best work late.
How to play it: Presides WIN
3. Let’s Go Johnny powered home to score at Wyong when big odds two starts ago, and he followed that up with another good run when charging into third at Newcastle. He is racing well enough to give this a shake.
Dangers: 1. Irish Bliss followed a couple of placings with a strong Kembla Grange win, then enjoyed a good run before racing erratically under pressure when hitting the line well for a second at this track when last produced. He’s drawn wide here but has the talent to bounce back. 6. Twin Turbo has run well when finishing second in each of his latest two starts at Hawkesbury and looms as a place contender again here. 8. Rapt hit the line well when second at Newcastle last time out, and she has the ability to figure in the finish again if the breaks go her way from the wide gate.
How to play it: Let’s Go Johnny WIN
1. Curl Curl resumed from a spell with a strong win at Newcastle, then finished second at that track before scoring again in good style there last time out. He’s only missed a place once from seven starts and he should take plenty of beating again here.
Dangers: 4. I’m Not Slew led them up and gave nothing else a chance when winning at this track over 1000m when last produced. She only needs to run up to that to take a power of beating again. 2. Outishka won well at Newcastle back in February then was down the track in Highway grade before finishing third at Newcastle and then being spelled. She easily won a Muswellbrook trial leading into this. 7. Phantom Spirit is resuming and has had two trials in preparation in Queensland. He has a handy record and could sprint well fresh here.
How to play it: Curl Curl WIN
5. Flying Thinker ran well on debut at Hawkesbury when finishing third, then followed that up with a strong win at Newcastle when leading throughout. She’s drawn to get the run of the race in this and can go on with the job.
Dangers: 3. Equipage resumed from a spell and justified odds-on favouritism to score a strong win when sprinting home sharply. She since finished third at Canterbury and will find this more to her liking despite the wide gate. 2. Triskelion was a winner on debut at Canterbury in January, then was just behind the placings in a couple of runs before running last at Rosehill and then being spelled. He’s had two trials in preparation for this. 8. Zipitalist was placed when second at Hawkesbury last time out and could be placed again with a repeat of that.
How to play it: Flying Thinker WIN.
