Godolphin homebred Star of Mystery lived up to her role as
the odds-on favorite Sunday, accelerating past her male rivals down the middle
of the stretch to win by about two lengths in the Grade 3, $175,000 Quick Call Stakes,
a 5 1/2-furlong turf sprint for 3-year-olds at Saratoga.
Jockey Flavien Prat rode the ninth graded-stakes win in the
U.S. this year for trainer Charlie Appleby. The daughter of Kodiac fared better
Saturday than she did last month when she finished third against older males in
the Jaipur (G1) over the same course and distance.
Star of Mystery (3-5) finished with a time of 1:00.97 on the
firm turf after chasing early fractions of 21.16 and 43.90 set by pacesetter No
Nay Mets (6-1). She paid $3.30, $2.50 and $2.10.
Mansa Musa (7-1) took second and returned $4.20 and $2.80.
Fandom (7-2) was third and paid $2.50 to show. American Rascal (14-1) came in
fourth.
