Satellite footage captured storm activity over North Carolina, as a tropical storm-like system dumped historic rain on parts of the state on Monday, September 16.
The imagery, released by the Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere at Colorado State University and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (CSU/CIRA & NOAA), shows the activity over Monday afternoon and evening.
“Nonstop storms slamming North Carolina today. The constant rainfall has caused significant flooding in the region,” it captioned the video.
The National Hurricane Center told residents on Monday to expect tropical storm conditions along parts of the Carolinas’ coasts. Weather officials reported flash flooding, heavy rain and gusty winds.
More than 18 inches of rain fell at Carolina Beach over a 12 hour period, the National Weather Service said. Such a weather event occurred once in every 1000 years, it said. Credit: CSU/CIRA & NOAA via Storyful
