Yahoo Sports senior writer Jay Busbee recaps the second round of the British Open, highlighting Shane Lowry’s two-shot lead despite the chaotic weather conditions.
The second round of the open championship is done.
And while much of the field is heading home, pretty much all the fields gonna went ahead to the pub after a day in which wins blew away any chance that a lot of big name players had for winning this tournament.
Let’s start at the top, Shane Lowry is leading.
He’s at minus seven.
He’s two strokes ahead of the field.
Only 10 players overall including Lowry are under par for the entire tournament.
And that’s because of the 30 to 35 mile an hour wins that blew away a whole lot of the field including guys like Rory mcilroy Bryson D Shamba and Tiger Woods for, for three.
But this is a story where if you were able to play into the wind, if you were able to survive, if you’re able to keep your head, you can stay in the tournament.
You’ve got guys like Xander Shawley Scotty Scheffer, Patrick Cantlay, Jason Day, Justin Rose.
These are some of the big names, major winners that are still in the mix at, uh, under par on the tournament.
They’re all chasing Shane Lowry at the moment since the winner, almost always.
About 90% of the time comes from the top 10.
Chances are it’s gonna be one of these players.
But then the way that the weather works at tr you never quite know the wind is supposed to die down for Saturday, but then the rain is supposed to pick up and then Sunday it’s supposed to be nice weather, but nice weather is a relative term in British open, relative idea in British open terms.
So we’ll have to see how that works out.
But right now, Shane Lowry at the halfway point leading the open championship hoping to get his second open championship title.
We’ll see where it goes over the weekend.
